Why I Created The Resilient Author Podcast
Your story matters and this podcast is here to remind you of the resilience it takes to bring it to life.
In this opening episode, I share the story behind The Resilient Author Podcast and why it matters to me. From helping my late father finish his book to realizing the power of speaking over writing, I’ve seen that resilience is what carries authors through. This show is my way of honoring that truth and creating a space for authors to share both the challenges and the breakthroughs behind their books.

Hello and welcome to the Resilient Author Podcast. I'm your host, Kary Youman, and this show is about more than just writing a book. It's about resilience because. From my experience behind every book is a story, not just of idea and insights, but of perseverance, setbacks, and breakthroughs. And if you've ever dreamed of writing a book but found yourself stuck, overwhelmed, or staring at a blank page, you're in the right place. Let me start with why I created this podcast. A few years ago, I had the opportunity and privilege to help my dad, who was a Grammy nominated musician, finally capture a book he'd been carrying inside for 20 years. Now, he'd written bits and pieces of it, but he just wasn't able to finish it. And when we switched from trying to simply. Write the book to just having some basic conversations. Everything changed. His story started to flow again. His wisdom poured out, and for the first time in a long time, he was starting to believe again, that getting his book out was actually possible. That experience itself showed me something extremely powerful, and it's that writing isn't the only way to author a book. Sometimes the very barriers that keep us from writing, you know, perfectionism, trauma, self-doubt, are the same ones that silence our most important stories, and I just believe that speaking can set them free. After my dad passed, I was able to turn the majority of those recordings along with a lot of what he wrote into his published legacy. And that moment truly shaped my mission, and it's to help other coaches, therapists, and practitioners finally share their wisdom with the world. Each week I'll interview nonfiction authors about the stories behind their books, the real Process, not just the published product, or should I say, the Polish product. We'll talk about resilience, the fears they face, the doubts they battled along the way, and of course, the turning points that made their books possible. We'll also explore practical strategies to help you move forward on your own book journey, especially if you've tried before and struggled. You'll hear conversations with trauma-informed coaches, recovery leaders, healers, and thought leaders who discovered that their voice not a blank page was the key to actually finishing their book. This isn't, about chasing bestseller list or any kind of writing hacks. We will offer some of that here, but that's not what we're focusing on. It's really about that deeper truth, which is your voice matters and your story deserves to be told, and resilience truly is the bridge to get there. If any of this resonated with you, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss future episodes. And if you know a coach, a therapist, or a practitioner who's just been struggling to finish their book, please share this show with them. I'm your host, Kary Youman, and until next time, remember, your story matters. Your voice is waiting. I look forward to sharing more stories with you in the coming episodes. Take care.
